Summary:
This is an exciting mid-level opportunity for a registered patent attorney with a PhD (or advanced degree) in chemistry or biochemistry and 3–5 years of patent prosecution experience. The ideal candidate brings technical depth in the life sciences sector, and is eager to contribute to client innovation, mentorship efforts, and long-term pipeline planning. You’ll work with startups, universities, and global corporations to help secure and protect key IP assets.
What You’ll Do:
• Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications
• Lead invention disclosure meetings and advise on IP strategy
• Communicate complex scientific concepts to legal and business stakeholders
• Manage client budgets and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables
• Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to team development
• Stay current on legal and scientific developments impacting patent law
Experience You’ll Need:
• 3–5 years of experience in patent prosecution within chemistry/life sciences
• PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field (Master’s with industry experience may be considered)
• Admission to the USPTO and license to practice law (Illinois preferred)
• Experience advising startups, academic institutions, and pharma clients
• Exceptional communication and client relationship skills
